Adam, Danny and Kris Perform on "American Idol"

The competition is heating up on "American Idol," with only three contestants left in the running. On Tuesday night's show, the top three sang songs selected by the judges as well as ones of their own choosing.

Paula Abdul chose "Dance, Little Sister" for Danny Gokey, but while his singing received good reviews, Kara DioGuardi wasn't a fan of Gokey's moves. He chose "You Are So Beautiful" as his second song, which the judges raved about. Kara told him, "Everything you didn't do [in your first song], you just did!" Twitterers had mixed reviews of his performances:

1.
RyanOConnor Still LOVES Danny Gokey and doesn't care if it's not as cool as it used to be!! I'm loyal, if nothing else!!
2.
nerfwarriors I think Danny Gokey might be the most boring singer EVER...
3.
theburglar1337 really really likes Danny Gokey, despite being brainwashed by all of the Adam and Chris zombies.
4.
rochelle71 American Idol show was great tonight. Been voting for Danny Gokey. Hope he's in the finale.
5.
le_ponch Dear America, please send Danny Gokey home. Sincerely ME

Kris Allen had a strong night on the show, first singing the Randy and Kara chosen "Apologize" and then putting his own spin on Kanye West's hit "Heartless". While Kara said he didn't "hit it out of the park," tweets from "Idol" fans were overwhelmingly positive:

1.
markasey Kris Allen just may be the cutest guy I've ever seen.
2.
shoelover14 my american idol is kris allen :)
3.
natetang I though that Kris Allen did a great job with the Kayne West song tonight. http://bit.ly/Hofvy - It is going to be close on American Idol
4.
etazar01 Just voted for Kris Allen like a zillion times... My finger is tired:(
5.
nashae loved Kris Allen's performance. lolz@ Simon, he's funny.

Simon Cowell chose Adam Lambert's first song, "One" by U2. The judges all agreed it was another strong performance, and were equally enthusiastic about his rendition of Aerosmith's "Cryin." Simon encouraged everyone to vote for Lambert, and while some proclaimed their fandom over Twitter, others in the Twitterverse weren't thrilled with his songs:

1.
GodivaFilm @ttaumua Adam Lambert is NOT going home until next week- when he has won^^
2.
sasigurl430 I always have a big smile on my face throughout each and everyone of Adam Lambert's performances :D.
3.
ashposh Adam Lambert is totally going to win this competition! He has new and interesting stuff every week and, although I like Danny, he's amazing!
4.
kaytiebeth06 I'm still pissed alison isn't on american idol, but i do love me some adam lambert.
5.
sbgaines Is Adam Lambert *trying* to lose to get out of an Idol contract?! Did he just BLOW the surest Idol lead ever?
6.
walrusoct9 I had the accidental misfortune of hearing Adam Lambert sing U2's "One." Why couldn't I have been born deaf? My ears may never recover.

Post-"Idol" tweets about Lambert weren't solely about his singing talent - Twitterers were also gossiping about recent reports that Adam could be the first gay "American Idol." Lambert appears alone on the May 15 cover of Entertainment Weekly with the headline "Most Exciting 'American Idol' Contestant In Years," but most Twitter users seem to think that Lambert's sexuality is no big deal and are expressing support for the rocker:

1.
mosbold Boy, Adam Lambert. You reppin' the gay community big time. Damn, you can sing.
2.
dannydefreitas Will Adam Lambert be the first gay American Idol? (i'm thinking.... HELLZ YEAHHH!!!
3.
BrendanPMurphy If Adam Lambert wins America will have voted for a Black President and a Gay Rock Star in the same year. Great stuff U.S! stay open-minded..
4.
leyyyy someone told me adam lambert is gay? danggggg it. no hope for me :(
5.
ernestsewell Does it matter if Adam Lambert is gay or not? Is he "hiding" if he doesn't COME OUT? His friends/family know, so who is he hiding from?

Major Elimination On "Idol"

After guest performances from Chris Daughtry, Slash & No Doubt, 17-year-old rocker Allison Iraheta was eliminated on tonight's "American Idol" results show.

Ryan Seacrest told her, "I know I'll be playing your songs on the radio really soon," and the Twitterverse seems to agree, lamenting Iraheta's departure:

1.
patlovesenca can't believe allison iraheta got eliminated instead of kris allen. :(( i hate to see allison leave.
2.
Heirlumestudios American Idol - Allison was robbed.
3.
MarcusMichalik Poor Allison. Gokey was beyond awful last night. I guess America wants another Michael Bolton.
4.
RhonniesTweets Bah. Allison, you're going to go on to do great things, but I think you deserved to be in the top three.

Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, and Adam Lambert make up the top three, leaving no females in the competition. Their fans came out to support them on Twitter:

1.
klisley Surprised at the ending of Idol. But Danny is still my pick to win it all!
2.
Wicked1Fan Sad Alyson left American Idol but happy Adam Lambert is still there =)
3.
nikkigniadek is so happy kris allen is still around

Fresh on the heels of announcing her former painkiller addiction, Paula Adbul performed her new pop single, "I'm Just Here For The Music" and was eager to know what the Twitterverse thought.

1.
PaulaAbdul What did you guys think??? What a night right??.. I have to admit that I was a little nervous.
2.
PaulaAbdul If you liked what you heard tonight. Go to www.paulaabdul.com to download my new single " I'm just hear for the music". Love u guys. xoxo

Unfortunately for her, most found it laughable:

1.
Jamers311 Did paula abdul forget American idol is a singing show not a lip syncing contest! Hello I wasn't there for the music! Xoxo
2.
JHeftler Oh no. I had to watch that Paula Abdul performance on Idol through my fingers. Please no more Weeble microphone! Or vocorder sound effect.
3.
karentr75 Someone please, please tell Paula Abdul the '80s are over. Please!
4.
DaveDwonch Paula Abdul "singing" on American Idol is hilarious.

"Idol" Finalists Perform Rock Hits

The top four "American Idol" contestants vied for the final three spots tonight, performing classic rock songs and pairing up for duets.

Adam Lambert, wearing a leather jacket and showing more than a little chest, kicked the night off with the first Led Zeppelin song performed on "Idol," MTV News reports. Kara DioGuardi raved that he was "more than a rock star, you're a rock GOD!" The Twitterverse agreed, as "Adam Lambert" was the number one trending topic shortly after the show.

1.
heathershannon loved Adam Lambert's version of Whole Lotta Love by Zeppelin...he rocks!
2.
mariskavh Adam Lambert was awesome tonight!!
3.
vampjenn Adam Lambert singing a whole lot of love, was amazing!
4.
nneeiikkaa Adam lambert killed it tonight, holy f***ing sh**.

17-year-old Allison Iraheta channeled Janis Joplin with the iconic "Cry Baby," and also rocked a new long hairdo courtesy of Lambert's hair stylist. Simon Cowell commended Iraheta on her growth, but said she "tried too hard to sound like the original." Twitterers responded lukewarmly.

1.
bethanyrayle Although I didn't think Allison was as good as she could have been this week and it wouldn't surprise me if she's sent home instead...
2.
JewieJewjew Voting for Allison via text. At least maybe she can come in second.
3.
vampjenn Allison iraheta has a great voice but she wont win. im getting a little bored of her

Danny Gokey and Kris Allen were the first pair to sing a duet, performing Styx's "Renegade." Randy Jackson said they "complemented each other greatly," while Cowell simply said, "Danny, you were better than Kris." Twitter users agreed that tonight was not Allen's night, with mixed reviews on his solo performance of "Come Together" by the Beatles.

1.
damndavestfu Kris Allen is the man but he sucked tonight
2.
   Born_4_Broadway Goodbye, Kris Allen. (probably)
3.
BeachBloom think Kris Allen is going home on American Idol
4.
mapex_drummer @melissxo I voted a ton for Kris Allen. I didn't think it was bad either, I actually liked it.

Gokey sang (and screamed) Aerosmith's "Dream On." Although the judges weren't huge fans of Gokey's venture into a new genre, Cowell still said that he believed Gokey would be safe. Tonight's tweets didn't seem to agree, however.

1.
delanae Something about Danny Gokey that bothered me from the start. He may be a great guy / good singer, but he's no Adam Lambert!
2.
XavRub Just listened to Danny Gokey's performance on Idol and now my ears are bleeding.
3.
eriiclopez "he broke his back thats why hes screaming !!!" -lexy's dad about danny gokey's performance! hahah.

The show ended on a high note with Lambert and Iraheta's duet, rocking out Foghat's "Slowride." Cowell enthused that the two rockers were the duet-off champs, and the Twitterverse agreed, raving about the performance.

1.
irgth Voted for Adam. Hoping for Adam/Allison finale. Dissapointed that ITunes doesn't get the Adam/Allison duet. #idol
2.
crazyclaire18 Allison & Adam's duet was amazing! And since I love the song "Slow Ride" it made me love the performance moooooore.
