Tony Award Nominations Announced

Per Entertainment Weekly, the 2009 Tony nominations are out and Billy Elliot, The Musical earned 15 nominations including "Best Musical." Other nominees in that category include Next To Normal, Shrek The Musical and Rock of Ages.

Former "American Idol" contestant Constantine Maroulis received a nomination in the "Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical" category for his work in Rock of Ages.

The Twitterverse reacted to the nominations with mixed opinions:

  1. Rock of Ages is definitely not like any other Broadway show I've seen but it is more entertaining than 98% of them. I agree with the critics that Constantine Maroulis has a natural acting style that makes you want to root for his character, Drew, all the way! And- the guy can really sing!
    Congrats to Constantine and the entire outstanding cast.
